Will you remind me of my appointment?

We recommend all clients schedule their future appointments at least 2 – 3 weeks in advance as spots fill quickly on our busier days, and we highly recommend pre-booking your next appointment before leaving the salon.

Walk-ins are welcome, however, while we do our best to accommodate all of our clients, time is not always available to accept walk in appointments.

When should I arrive?

We suggest that you arrive 5-10 minutes early for your scheduled appointment. This will allow you the opportunity to relax and to let the staff know of any special requests or questions that you might have.

What if I need to change my appointment time or date?

Our stylists are often very busy, and we need to run on schedule. However, we understand that sometimes things are unavoidable.

If you think you are going to be late, please call us and let us know as soon as possible as we may be able to rearrange things so that other clients are not affected.

If by chance you are late, please be aware that it may impact on what services you can have done during your appointment time if another client would be made to wait.

We will always do our best to accommodate you when it is possible.

I’ve coloured my own hair and it’s been a disaster! Can you help?

It is extremely important to seek professional help as soon as possible when hair colour goes wrong. Please do not fall into the trap of thinking you can just colour over the problem, as this is usually not the case. Our colourists will assess the individual strands of your hair to work out which areas are drier than others, have sun damage and any loss of condition from repeated colouring. Once a full examination of your hair and the hair colour problems have been identified, our colourists can then correct the hair colour issues for each section of your hair.

Please note that these are specialised colour correction services, and you will be taking up residence in our salon for quite some time. A time estimate will be given during your consultation. The consultation is free of charge.

What would be considered a colour correction?

In theory a colour correction is when you are going more than 2 shades lighter or darker. In reality the possibilities are endless. Most of the time we can achieve your goals without doing a true colour correction. Colour corrections typically involve multiple steps above and beyond a normal all over colour or highlight. Because of this we cannot predict exactly how much time it will take and charge by the hour. If you think you may need a colour correction call our salon and speak to one of our colourists.

We will be able schedule you for a consultation with one of our colourists so that we can determine if a colour correction is necessary. We do this free of charge.

What if I can't get in to see my normal stylist? Is it ok to see someone else?

All of our stylists are very talented, capable, and eager to serve any client upon request. Don’t be shy to ask to try someone different, we work as a team to make sure every client’s needs and desires are met. We will not be offended if you choose to try different stylists in the salon. All the clients of our salon are shared clientele and ultimately your happiness is the number one priority of our team.

It’s always good to check our stylists profile pages on this website and we would be happy to chat with you about which stylist can best achieve your desired look.

How often should I colour my hair?

You should wait a minimum of two weeks between hair colour applications. Typically, hair colour is applied every 4-6 weeks, or more often if you have grey hair that you want to cover or if you are colouring with an intense tone that fades in less time than 4 to 6 weeks.

Foil highlights should generally last 6-12 weeks and balayage highlights 12-16+ weeks. Your stylist can give you a more accurate time frame based on what your goal is with your hair and how fast your hair grows. To ensure maximum longevity it is important to use a colour safe shampoo and conditioner.

Having a beautiful hair colour is a commitment that requires a little extra care if it’s to retain its vibrancy and shine.

How do I keep my hair colour vibrant for as long as possible?

To ensure maximum longevity it is important to use a colour safe shampoo and conditioner, especially for copper and red shades which can fade quickly, or for blondes which can get brassy. CPR Vitafive shampoos, conditioners and treatments will keep your colour looking fresh and bold.

Our colourists can advise on appropriate products for your colour, hair texture, and scalp. We recommend you avoid shampooing your hair every day. Typically shampooing your hair two to three times per week is more than enough to keep your hair fresh.

If your colour is looking dull between your regular appointments, why not try a Glossing Service? It restores shine and pigment to your colour and prolongs the vibrant look for longer.

Should I wash my hair before colouring it or getting an upstyle?

Not unless it’s really oily. We recommend before you get your hair coloured, make sure you deep condition it, then, don’t wash your hair for at least 24-48 hours before your appointment. The natural oils in your hair will help hold the color longer and create a natural buffer between your skin and the colour.

If you’re getting an upstyle we recommend coming in with either clean, dry hair or one day dirty hair.

Should I shampoo my hair twice? Is this a myth?

For maximum effect your hair should be shampooed twice. The first shampoo will clean your hair of pollution, dirt, and any build-up of hair care products. The second shampoo activates the specific ingredients that are prescribed for your hair type or colour.

How often should I get my hair cut ?

Time in between haircuts will vary between different people. Haircuts should generally occur every 4 to 6 weeks if you want to look your best. After this amount of time, hair generally starts to lose its support and shape. Our stylists will be able to recommend an appropriate amount of time before you will need to return to the salon so we can maintain the structure of your hairstyle.

How do I prevent my coloured hair from drying out so easily?

You should keep your hair protected from bright sunlight and harsh weather conditions in summer as much as possible. Coloured hair really loves moisture, so we recommend you use a rich conditioner all year round to keep your hair’s bounce, shine, and manageability in check.

What is the difference between permanent and semi permanent hair color

Semi permanent is a temporary color that will eventually wash away with no regrowth line. Permanent colour attaches to the cuticle and grows out with your hair and will need a touch up at the roots later.

I can't decide between two shades of colour. Should I choose the lighter or darker one?

Choose the lighter shade as once you have coloured your hair, it cannot be easily lightened, but can be darkened if you choose.

How much will it cost me to go blonde?

It is difficult for us to give exact quotes over the phone or internet without seeing your hair in person. The price can be affected by your hair type, thickness, length and condition, and can then vary depending upon the exact colour you want to achieve.

We can schedule you for a consultation with one of our colourists who can determine the best course of action and provide you with a quote. We do this free of charge.

Do I still need to have my hair trimmed if trying to grow it ?

Yes, the hair at the end of the strands has been there the longest and will tend to get damaged more easily. If the ends of your hair are not kept trimmed then split ends can travel along the hair shaft resulting in the need to have more hair length removed later. Just ask our stylists to cut the bare minimum off as you as trying to grow your hair. It is common for a client to come to the salon about once every three months for this type of scenario.

Can I colour over my previous hair colour using a supermarket box colour?

We don’t recommend this as supermarket colour usually has high ammonia content and will reactivate all the old colour molecules and make it progressive. This can give you unwanted dark tones at the ends and different coloured roots.

Why should I go to a salon to have my hair coloured?

As trained professionals our colourists pride themselves in being highly educated in colour theory and using the best professional quality products available. Only professional stylists can make sure that the products on your hair are going to keep your health and hair integrity in check. We can create a colour that is specific to your skin type, eye colour, and lifestyle.

Why should I buy home care products from a salon?

We only offer you the best quality products available in the professional industry, our home care products are guaranteed to maintain the integrity of your hair style and colour. We care about our clients and all of our stylists are educated as to the ingredients and technology behind every hair product we carry in our salon. How many foils are in a Half Head?

Around 25 foils, but maybe more depending on the thickness and texture of your hair. We can schedule you for a consultation with one of our colourists who can determine the best course of action and provide you with a quote. We do this free of charge.

How long will my colour appointment take?

The average client is in the salon for 2 hours during a colour application appointment.

Is my hair dry or damaged?

Many people think their hair is damaged when it’s actually dry. Dry hair usually looks and feels frizzy, with lots of split ends. It can be caused by heated styling tools, not using conditioner, repetitive colouring, chemical perming or exposure to harsh weather conditions.

Damaged hair is usually brittle, it cracks or breaks easily, and stretches if you pull on it. Damaged hair is often caused by bleaching, frequent use of chemical relaxants or other chemical applications.

We recommend you regularly use a rich conditioner all year round to keep your hair in prime condition.

What professional colour brand do you use?

In our salon we are proud to use CPR Vitafive colour on our clients.

Can I come in for a consultation?

Yes. We love to meet new people and determine what their hair goals are, and how we can reach those goals. We do this free of charge and we always do this for all new client appointments or if you are seeing a different stylist than you normally do.

Should I apply conditioner to the roots of my hair?

The roots of your hair have enough oil to produce a conditioning effect. You should only apply conditioner from your ear level down to the ends of your hair.

Can you teach me how to do my hair?

Our stylists will be happy to show you how to best manage your hairstyle and show you how to recreate a salon style finish at home. Our goal is to have you looking your best every time you style your hair. Our best form of advertisement is your appearance.

Which styling products should I use for my hair?

This depends on what you’re trying to achieve with your hair. Our stylists will be able to determine which products will work the best for your haircut and the texture of your hair. Feel free to ask as many questions as you’d like, we love to keep our clients well informed so they love their hair every day.

Are salon home care products better than supermarket brands?

Most products found outside of professional hair salons are usually diluted and seem to create oiliness on the scalp and dryness on the ends. Professional brands are more concentrated, and so less is used. The cost ends up around the same and the hair and scalp is in better condition.

Cheap non-colour safe shampoos have higher detergent levels and will strip your colour faster. Conditioners with a high paraben content will also bind to your colour and make it wash out more quickly.

As trained professionals we pride ourselves in being highly educated in hair and scalp health. Only professionals can ensure you are using correct products on your hair and skin.

What is balayage / ombre / sombre ?

Balayage (Pronounced bah-lee-ahzge)is a French colour technique developed in the 1970’s. It is a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour, similar to what nature gives us as children, with softer, less noticeable regrowth lines than traditional foil highlights. It is produced by using a freehand application technique.

Ombre is a colour application technique that refers to hair colour fading from dark to light, or vice versa instead of the colour starting from the roots.

Sombre is a subtle ombre with balayage like pieces placed throughout the hair for a very natural look. This technique offers a very natural look for hair.

Can I swim in a chlorinated pool after having my hair coloured?

We don’t recommended you do this right after a colour application as it could strip out the colour or turn a blonde green but after you have had the colour for a couple weeks then you should be ok to use a quality conditioner on wet hair and leave it in before you go into a pool.

What is the difference between texturing and layering?

Texturing can preserve length and soften a line in a haircut.

Layering can change the shape of a haircut and add more body and movement to the hair.

What is the difference between highlights and lowlights?

Highlighting is a process of lightening a certain amount of hair strands to give an overall lighter appearance.

Lowlighting is a process of darkening a certain amount of hair strands for a richer dimensional look. This can be a great technique for brunette’s to enrich their natural hair colour.

How should I choose the best hair colour for me?

The colour that looks the most natural and the prettiest is the one that matches your eye colour and skin tone.

If your skin tone is ivory or ashy, discuss ash or beige tones of blonde. For warmer skin tones like golden brown, creamy beige or café au lait, look to golden or straw hues of blonde.

Our professional colourists can create a colour that is specific to your skin type, eye colour, and lifestyle.

Are hair colours and chemicals safe while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Most research in this area indicates that the chemicals found in both semi-permanent and permanent colours are safe to use during pregnancy.

We recommend that if you are concerned you may wish to consider having foil highlights or lowlights so that the chemicals do not contact your scalp.

Ultimately if you have any concerns about having your hair coloured while pregnant or breastfeeding, you should seek advice from a suitably qualified medical professional as only a medical professional can give you the advice that is right for you and your baby.

Can I use heat styling tools on my coloured hair?

If you’re looking after your hair’s health, then you can use blow-dryers and heat styling tools in sensible amounts, whatever the colour of your hair. Lightened hair can be prone to dryness and damage, so please ensure you condition your hair well before using heat styling tools.

Additionally you should always use a heat protection spray before curling or straightening to minimise long term damage to your hair.

I have been using hair colour from a box for years. I am now over 50% grey and the same colour is no longer covering my grey hair?

Grey hair is lacking pigment that needs to be mixed into the colour you want to be. One colour will not work.

By adding the required pigment to your colour formula and by using a developer specifically designed for grey coverage we can get achieve complete and long lasting grey coverage. We can schedule you for a consultation with one of our colourists who can determine the best course of action and provide you with a quote. We do this free of charge.

Can I bring pictures of what I want ?

Yes, hair stylists are very visual and we love it when you to bring pictures of the looks you are wanting to achieve. We also have pictures in the salon for you to be inspired by. The pictures will give us a clear idea of the look you are going for so we can give you options based on your current hair colour, condition, facial features and colouring.
